The Government of Mexico, thru the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), clarified the situation regarding app-based transportation services at airports, in response to various news reports concerning a federal court’s injunction granted to Uber.

The SICT reported that passenger transportation services to and from airports provided thru platforms such as Uber do not have official authorization from the agency to operate in those areas.

The suspension granted to Uber was intended to ensure that the National Guard’s operations comply with the law and avoid arbitrary actions, but it does not constitute authorization to provide service at airports.

Let’s recall that, at the time, the former economic competition authority (COFECE) recommended adjustments to the legal framework to eliminate barriers to entry for ride-hailing taxis at Mexico’s airports; here’s the link to the study it conducted: https://lnkd.in/eiRgWA7H

Would you agree that app-based transportation companies should be allowed to provide services at Mexican airports?
